Shrine
This was my second mosaic and I made it for my parents’ grave. The ceramic photo of my parents was ordered through a memorial business and was made in Italy. The cemetery where they are buried is a very creative one, and the shrine fits in very well with other tributes to loved family members. It is obviously a very personal piece! Year created: 2017. Dimensions: 450 x 280 mm. Mediums: glass tiles, ceramics, a variety of personal artefacts. Substrate: Concrete

This was my first ever mosaic. I’m still proud of it, although I would change some things about it now! I would be more fussy about having clean edges of the cut pieces, and it would be less ‘busy’. Year created: December 2016. Dimensions: 350mm diameter. Mediums: ceramics, paua. Substrate: Concrete
Vancouver Bike Rack 1
I live part time in Vancouver. We had just finished creating a gorgeous garden and building a new deck outside our apartment, and my partner wanted to put a very ugly concrete bike rack on the deck. I agreed only if I could mosaic it. Year created: 2018. Dimensions: 700 x 500 mm. Mediums: Ceramic tiles and found objects. Substrate: Concrete

I started doing mosaics four years ago after a half-day workshop and have been self-taught ever since. I work full time so I don’t get much opportunity to focus on mosaics, but I find this creative process very satisfying and relaxing when I do have time. I have not offered any pieces for sale as yet, but I have given several away as gifts. I joined the Facebook group a few weeks ago and I suddenly realised how little I know, and how much information is being shared from this thriving mosaic community! I have learned a lot already. I’m still experimenting with different materials, so I don’t yet have a preferred medium or style. I’m looking forward to learning and experimenting more.
