Sunflower in Purple 2009
600 mm x 450 mm Stained glass, glass tiles and flat marbles, Marmox board with an aluminium frame. I LOVE sunflowers... this mosaic began as seeds sown, flowers photographed and now in vibrant stained glass!!
China Dove
2017 225 mm x 175 mm Rescued english bone china on a treated plywood base. I love using cracked or chipped china to ensure the memories continue. As I carefully cut, I also look out for interesting shapes that the china gives to create a beautiful and unique mosaic.
Bronzed Beauty
March 2017 430 mm wide x 485 mm high x 640 mm of curve. Stained glass, shimmer glass, glass tiles and flat marbles. Curved glass base. What do you do when you are given a chipped glass coffee table base... you make something for light to shine through!
Sculpted Mirror 2015
600 mm x 1200 mm Glass tiles, glass beads, stained glass, flat marbles. Marmox board, CelluClay and Vermiculite base. This is my own designed mosaic as a student of Sharra Frank's first online Sculpted Mirror workshops. Fantastic workshop and then this mosaic generated a commission for a NZ themed mirror to send to the UK. This new process of sculpting the base was an exciting new step.
New Zealand Idyll
2009 1200 mm x 550 mm Glass tiles, stained glass and glass, Marmox board with an aluminium frame. Companion mosaic to NZ Idyll 2008 both featuring NZ landscapes with clouds, sea, rolling hills and native plants.

Commission for Alex 2014 1400 mm x 2500mm Glass tiles, mirror, stained glass, ceramic tiles on Hardie Villa board. I love the challenge of commission work, the process involves good communication the whole way through. I also enjoy making large mosaics!!
Louise Herdman
The love for mosaics began in 2002 and the fascination continues.
From the very beginning I have used a variety of materials in my mosaics for contrast, texture and to catch the light in different ways. However it was not until 2005 that I began including stained glass and the wide range of glass tiles that are available. Glass introduces beautiful colour, texture and varying reflections. Not satisfied with just pushing square tiles to form sweeps and curves, I continue to explore and develop my own style of mosaic art.
I love a challenge and enjoy making mosaics to commission. I’ve created a range from small memory mosaics, splashbacks, sculpted wall mirrors to large garden wall panels. Please contact me to begin planning a unique mosaic for you. References available.
