New Zealand Mosaic Art

Danielle Fernandez

I began my journey into the world of mosaics 25 years ago after creating several tile mosaic pieces at my home studio in Lititz, Pennsylvania. These went for sale at an upscale boutique on Madison Avenue in New York City.

Soon after I moved to Richmond, Virginia I opened my own gallery and worked primarily on private commissions for mosaic interior design in residents home such as splash backs, dining room tables, showers, tubs, fire place resurfacing, interior windows, floors, patios etc.

I moved to New Zealand ten years ago and settled in the coastal village of Maraetai New Zealand where I run my business “Mainly Mosaics Maraetai” and also teach classes from my home studio.

Currently I am creating mosaic pop art 3 dimensional sculptures on cement and terracotta pots out of tile and sometimes tile/glass combinations that can be displayed either indoor or outdoor. Other outdoor creations include mixed media mosaic birdbaths, glass and tile mosaic stepping stones, glass/tile mosaic garden benches and glass/tile mosaic outdoor tables. I’m also working on stained glass mosaic interior/exterior lighting and stained glass mosaic sculptural paintings. Other interior works include stained glass mosaic vases, candle holders, picture frames, mirrors, clocks etc.

I love to create lit glass mosaic pieces selecting transparent and semi-transparent glass colours that create that specific ambience for evenings as well a outdoor pieces to enhance gardens and patios. I specialize in combining glass and tile to create designs on almost any surface.

I accept commissions and welcome the opportunity to create something beautiful for your home.

My studio is open daily 11am to 5pm at Maraetai New Zealand
